The Henderson Detention Center provides services for the City of Henderson’s misdemeanants along with processing and holding inmates for other county and Federal agencies, including the United States Marshal Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Park Service, Clark County and Boulder City.
The Henderson Department of Corrections is overseen by a Corrections Superintendent and maintains a staff of approximately 90 employees, including corrections officers, Sergeants, Lieutenants, technicians, central control room operators, cooks and police administrative specialists. Medical and mental health care is provided by a contracted medical service provider which includes 24 hours nursing care, weekly physician and psychiatric visits as well as basic dental care.
The facility holds approximately 300 adult inmates and in July 2011, the City of Henderson Police Department completed work on a new expansion of the jail which houses an additional 250 inmates, bringing the total capacity for the jail to 540 inmates. This facility does not hold juvenile inmates unless remanded to an adult status by the courts.
The expansion not only increased the capacity of the detention center, but also created new and improved health care and wellness facilities, recreation areas, inmate program areas, additional office space and increased staff work areas. The facility also features energy efficient improvements such as low energy lighting, automated lighting sensors which turns lights off to unoccupied areas, water conservation features including water-efficient landscaping and a state of the art ventilation system which can identify the outdoor temperature and shut itself down to allow the outdoor air to help heat or cool the facility.
